Dwight is a 1 year-old male, neutered, English Setter. He was rescued in June when local rescuers in Junction, TX alerted SWESR of the plight of nine beautiful young English Setters surrendered to Animal Control by a backyard breeder.
Dwight is an adorable pocket-sized setter weighing in around 35 pounds. This lively orange boy has bright golden brown eyes, charming freckles and is eager to be friends with every human and dog he meets. He is a little too interested in cats so a cat-free home is best for him. As with his siblings, the neglectful environment he lived in for his first nine months has not made him wary or mistrustful. He is seeing the world for the first time and is very curious and sometimes cautious about new noises or strange objects.
Dwight is thriving in his foster home; he is already house-trained and crate-trained. He is working on his leash-walking skills and will continue to need training in that area. He also is learning the fine art of distinguishing the difference between chew toys and shoes, so he requires supervision when loose in the house and also positive redirection. Dwight will do best with another friendly, playful dog that he can use as a role model. Dwight likes children, however fast movements and loud noises may frighten him.
As with all young English Setters, this young man is very busy and active. He is looking for a family that likes to play, exercise and snuggle a lot! He enjoys being near people at all times and looks to his humans for guidance and reassurance. He is an excellent travel companion in the car. When he is excited about something (putting on a leash) or doesn’t want to do something (taking a bath) he starts to wiggle and jump and needs a steady hand and calm handler to help him relax.
This happy and exuberant boy is neutered, chipped, HW negative and up-to-date on all tests and vaccines. He is looking for a loving, nurturing home and promises to be a friendly, wiggly, active family member ready to run and play and then snuggle up a storm. Placed in a stable environment with gentle, consistent guidance and positive reinforcement, Dwight is bound to be a delightful friend to everyone in his new family, human and canine alike. He is in a foster home in New Braunfels, TX.
