Cally and Maddy are 9.5 year-old Orange bench setters who came from a shelter in New Mexico. Because of major life changes their owner could no longer care for them. They were most likely kennel dogs used for breeding. They get along well with the resident dogs in their foster home, and would do well with either male or female, young or old, and big or small dogs. They have not been cat tested, but Maddy will bark at cats in the yard, whereas Cally is not a barker.
They have furniture privileges, and love being on the sofas, recliners, and beds. They are both snuggle bunnies and will climb up into your lap to be loved. They want to be with their people, and will follow you wherever you go. Their foster mom feels they haven’t had enough social interaction during their lives, as they both crave affection. Maddy does show some separation anxiety such as crying and barking if she isn’t with you.
Maddy enjoys running more than Cally, but they both run and play in the yard. They have no interest in toys or balls, but they like their chew sticks. Neither one has a strong escape drive, but doors and gates should be kept closed so they won’t wander, following their curiosity. They need a medium to large yard with at least 4 foot fencing. Their prey drive is low, as they haven’t gone after any yard critters.
They came with no basic training, but are now newly house trained, and are learning basic obedience commands such as a recall, sit, stay, and down, and how to walk nicely on a leash. They are crate trained, and want to share a crate with each other. They ride well in the car.
These sweet, cuddly, velcro sisters are looking for a family who will spend lots of time loving and being with them. They like adults, but haven’t been around children. Cally may be a candidate for therapy dog work, if she continues her obedience training.
They are in a foster home in San Diego, CA. They are spayed, micro-chipped, heartworm and fecal tested, current on vaccines, and on heartworm preventative. We feel the best thing for these girls is to stay together when they are adopted. Maybe you are the home these two beauties are waiting for? Cally and Maddy are eligible for our Seniors for Seniors program.
